I have been writing materials based on Education for the past 2 years and so I decided to created a blog where I will post some of these Materials (Weboform Blog). So here it is. Am post here on the Essential Importance of being Educated.
When I was kid, I can attest to being told daily how important education is. I was drenched with hearing that if you did not acquire an education, there is no space in society for you (technically speaking). However, as I got older and wiser, I came to realize that there is a difference between having an education, and being educated. Having an education is only a central step towards becoming fully empowered. There is a need for us to be educated. Now, let us dissect both terms.
What is the meaning of education?
According to a study research I conducted, “education is a wealth of knowledge acquired by an individual after studying particular subject matters or experiencing life lessons that provide an understanding of something. Education requires instruction of some sort from an individual or composed literature. The most common forms of education result from years of schooling that incorporate studies of a variety of subjects.
What we mean by being educated?
To be educated is to develop mentally, morally, religious, or aesthetically according to Weboform.com definition. To say that someone is educated doesn’t necessarily imply that the individual excels in a specific field, but rather that they have a substantial amount of knowledge in a series of different areas. A truly educated person should be well informed in many different areas, as well as being able to interact with various types of people.
Let me declare that education IS important. However, I challenge my young people to excel beyond having just an education and strive to BE educated. I am of the belief that the first step in being educated is knowing not only the basics such as Math, English, and History, but also knowing about current events and other areas such as art, music, politics, religion etc. Most people become specialized in one particular area. Having an area of expertise is vital; but equally important is broadening horizons, knowing a little bit about everything so you can interact with others.
Being educated means there is no room for laziness. As such, one must be productive in order to accomplish new things. One of the tools in being educated is reading, when one acquires knowledge through reading, it isn’t something for us to waste, and that what is learnt through reading must be put in to use.
The final part to an educated person is that they never stop learning. There will always be new ideas, concepts, and events to discover. In being educated it means you ought to keep updated on what is happening in the world around you. This does not only mean continuing to take classes, but maybe just read the newspaper occasionally, or read a book etc.
Everyone — parents, teachers, students, community members and institutions — has a role to play, and one of our main goals should be to work together to ensure that this happens. I charge my generation beginning today that we do a research of our choice weekly, so as to broaden our knowledge base, hence broadening our reasoning ability and purpose…… let’s make the change NOW and not later.
